Steve,
If you have an oil pressure reading during warm-up, the engine is not being starved for oil due to warm-up.
The by-pass filter simply diverts about 10% of the oil through the filter.
I warm-up the engine until I see the temperature gauge start to move.
Some people warm up the engine until they can start-off with no choke.
