I think ground is local, one for each side. Hot for brights comes from the dimmer switch on floor. That hot wire is split up front to run from one side to the other. Get a schematic. Most important to test the three pins on dimmer, one is hot from headlight switch and should energize each of the others upon clicking. If you don't have that and just have the hot from switch, you can touch it to one of the others, one at a time and see if brights come on. If no hot to dimmer, follow back to headlight switch/fuses/connectors/wiring. If dimmer operates well, check hot at headlight connectors. AND, as said ,the grounds at each headlight. That ground is either a inner fender or radiator support spot. Did you buy a front harness or make one? "When I hit the switch"....dimmer switch or headlight switch? The high beam indicator gets it's juice from the dimmer also, not affected by headlight ground, so probably the dimmer bad/wired wrong or lack of power from HL switch.
