If there is any play in it you can not get a good point setting. Clean the top of the coil real good & look for cracks or carbon tracks. The coil sould throw a fat blue spark about a 1/4 to 1/2 in. Make shure the coil wire is good first. Have you thought about an electronic ign. conversion?
