CASO, the rubber boot at top of the box is just a dust seal,
available from Carter and other vendors, no spring there

When I was going through my column I saw I still had mine but... it was fairly shredded.
When I put it to the wire brush on my bench grinder to clean the crud off, it turned out it looks like an old style flashlight spring that they coated in rubber or something.
I can see (if was whole) the dust cover part now, but as a spring it made no sense.
