Rough day in the shop today. The harmonic balancer on my 228 does not slide onto the end of the crankshaft far enough, resulting in it being at least a fan belt width too far forward. I'm sure it will throw the belt when I start it up. How can I tell if this is the correct balancer for my truck? An alternate question is this: is it possible that the timing gear is incorrect? When I install the balancer it hits the timing gear. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
