1941 GMC 3/4 Ton Pickup (slightly modified)

I was a young man of 25 or so when I first saw the remains of this 1941 GMC pickup sitting at a gas station. It was the styling of the grille that first caught my eye; then the for sale sign.

Without much negotiation, I became the new owner and took it home.

Then the truck sat another 27 years as raising children took priority.

After cutting down the trees that were growing up through the frame, I moved it into the garage and tore into, dismantling all but the rivets in the frame.

Fast forward 13 or so years and here it is.

Picking the colors was the most nerve-raking part of it all. I changed my mind every time I saw an old truck on the road or in pictures. I actually lost sleep over it and I don't miss sleep over anything.

It has been quite a challenge and most rewarding. There are a few bugs to work out but it is a blast to drive. All through the build I told the family and friends it will be bumpy, hot and loud to drive. It did not disappoint. smile

During the project, I discovered it had a 1953 248 with high oil pressure. I made a few safety modifications: seat belts, electric wipers, 12V elec, disc brakes in front, and moved the gas tank to below the bed.

John,

What a long way you have come with the '41!! I just updated your DITY Gallery thread from way back (2009). Folks might like to see the original before photo ... before the tree! wink (That tree shot sure looks like a number of the images we received for the It Ran When I Parked It contests. pix )

Feel free to add more in your DITY thread (since you can add additional images with any story). Would love to hear more about how you made it all happen!
