Bolter
1962 Chevy C-10 restomod

I was looking for a new project after the sale of my ‘48 Suburban. My last foray into this body style was in 1972 when we bought a 1963 GMC Carryall with the 305 V6. That truck was sold in 1974. So that brings us to the present truck. I found this ‘62 in a small town 30 minutes from home. It was stored in a shop along with a very nicely restored bright red ‘65 C-10. We were able to start it by pouring a little gas in the carburetor and jumping the battery. It actually ran ok but wouldn’t idle due to a gummed up fuel system. Made the deal and trailered it home. Cleaned the carburetor and put a new battery in along with a new gas tank. My wife and I put a seat from a early 90s C-10 in after recovering it. New carpet and a good cleaning. We drove it for a year before deciding to drop a V8 in. My son and I pulled the 235 and I sold it to another bolter from the east side of OKC. I bought a 4 Bolt main 350 from a friend along with a bunch of HiPo parts. Aluminum trick flo heads and several aluminum intakes. Shipped the engine parts to a local race engine builder (Shout out to Jerry’s Motor & Machine) and told him to use the best parts and build me a hot street engine. I used a kit to install power drum brakes and power steering. Found a aluminum radiator on eBay that fit with no serious modifications. My wife helped me install the new engine and 700R4 transmission. Had help from my son-in-law with welding and fabricating a new transmission crossmember. Believe it or not the bed wood is original and in good shape. We’ve been driving it for a couple of years now and it has been lots of fun. May do A/C at some point in the future.

Update 10/07/2022: Back in May of this year I decided to take the truck to the next step. I made arrangements with a friend who owns a new local body shop to take the truck and work on it between other jobs. He blew it all apart and began sanding and filling small dents. The truck was virtually rust free so he had very little to repair. Over the span of 17 weeks he smoothed out everything and primed, sealed and painted the whole truck a 2022 Chevy Silverado Glacier Blue Metallic and clear coated it. Now I have to put the grill, headlights and new front/rear bumpers on.
Enjoy the photos, apologies for not captioning the photos. I don’t have the computer skills to do that.

Very nice Martin, I had a '63 Fleetside that I let go way too cheap many years ago. Really like the color of yours all the way down to the primer and lettering, as it shows to be a great driver that's intended to be driven and enjoyed. I also like the side mount spare tire. My second Chevy truck had that same exact factory set up. It was a retired Omaha Metropolitan Utilities truck. A '68 short box with a 292 and Turbo 400.

Congratulations on being our 1st entry into the New Stovebolt Gallery for '60 thru 66.

John
