I have a 36 1/2 ton and I am getting thet parts together to upgrade the drive train to a 54 235 with a mechanical speedo t5. I have the engine/trans and I found a 37 truck bell housing. Got the adapter for it too. I still need an open driveline read end for it. I want to keep my stock wheels so I need a 6 lug rear end that is as close to the original width as possible. I was told an 85 k5 blazer rear would work but after getting one I found that is a lot wider. Stock is right about 58" at the outer face of the drum and the blazer one is about 64" A bit too wide to maintain the stock appearance I am going for. Anyone know what axle would be the closest and have the right lug pattern? I'm sure its been done before so any tips would be great!!! A buddy is using a '60 truck rear end in his 36 pickup with original skinny rims and it fits and looks good. BTW if you need 17" artillery wheels we have several spares. Jim PS. One of the two is six lug, BUT be sure to match you brakes. A small differnce between front brakes and back brakes is OK, but watch the combination of sizes that you are using. Don't over brake the rear.

This combo works great. I do not like changing to a rear end with better brakes on it than the front. This can send you into a tail spin on panic stops. If you are updating the front brakes than a rear end with Bendix brakes is fine.
