Looking for the name of these emblem colors.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1947-1948-1...ries&hash=item43bd632168&vxp=mtr
Also what paint to use, brand? I tried searching and only found one thread that had paint names for the blue and red but it did not have a brand name of the paint. I read some folks use Testers or One Shot with good luck.
I am finally going to get the emblems correctly painted on my '46 but need the red for the GMC pieces too.
Thanks.

I think LonnieC has the information on the Chevrolet bow-tie/emblem blue. Maybe he will see this post and add the result of his research and trials/testing?

here is the thread on the Chevrolet emblem blue)

Hi Billy -

The 1948 GM Resto Kit only gives names for the enamel paint colors on the emblems.
"Black Baking Dulux"
"Vermilion Baking Dulux"
"Blue Baking Dulux"
> 1948 emblem colors (bottom right of page)

I've never seen specs on the actual colors, except the info that the GM Heritage Center gave me about the blue for the bowties on my '54 hub caps. The Center may be able to give you more info. Otherwise, I kinda think that you are on your own to choose a color.

Here is the results of my quest for the correct blue color for the bowtie on my '54 hub caps. Has paint brand and mix formula and has contact info for GM heritage Center.

1-Shot Lettering Enamel might be a good choice. It flows out smooth. Sticks well to glass (and chrome). Wide range of colors. It dries slowly, so watch out for dust nibs. You will probably be able to wipe off any paint that ends up in the wrong place on the emblem before it dries.

1-Shot "158-L Dark Blue" seems close to the blue that the GM Heritage Ctr specified for my hub caps. That's the brand and color that Chevs of the 40s sells for painting emblems. "155-L Reflex Blue" seems too light. You can probably buy locally for about the same price.
> Chevs of the 40s blue

The red paint for emblems that Chevs of the 40s sells is 1-Shot "104L Bright Red". You can't see the name in the photo, but the UPC code confirms the color. 1-Shot has a vermillion red paint "100-L Vermillion", but it looks too orange to me.
> Chevs of the 40s red

Chevs also sells 1-Shot "199-L Black".

Good luck,

Thanks Tim and Lonnie, great info. I know this is a subject that has come up before and I am sure I have read posts about it.
I will probably go the One Shot route.
Thanks again.
