I media blasted my rusty 53 cab and there is a deep seam running at the bottom of the rear beltline. It is just wide enough to slide a flat screwdriver blade along it. I am concerned this area will not take primer and paint evenly. I have some auto body seam sealer in a tube. Would this be the right product to fill the seam?

One option: drizzle some rust converter down the seam (a few applications), and then drizzle some epoxy primer down the seam (this will seal the surfaces). Then, use some sort of filler to smooth the seam.

I've had good luck with 3M All-Around Autobody Sealant. Just make sure the seam is clean, I use Por 15 in the seam and then spray epoxy primer. Scuff the primer then lay a bead of sealant in the seam and smooth it out with damp cloth. You can paint over the sealant,no problems after 2 years.

After having my 37 cab acid dipped in 2003, I cleaned out the seam very well and used Por 15 & the same 3M autobody sealant that Yakimabowtie used. I then shot PPG epoxy primer over the seam & cab. I still have no signs of rust. I plan to paint the cab in the spring.
