I've been reading for an hour and a half and don't feel like searching any more. Can you veterans tell me if a new 10", 6-bolt clutch and pressure plate will work with my original bell housing and clutch fork (1952)? I had a 139T flywheel and 9" clutch in there, and I'm now planning to use a 168T flywheel.
Thanks, much.

Does anyone know if the clutch kits come with the pressure plate cover (the structure that connects the pressure plate to the flywheel)?

The kits I have bought always have the pressure plate as a complete assembly. However, a safe/correct answer depends upon what you are referring to. If you post a link to a product, some people will most likely be able to answer your question.
Also, you might want to be as specific as possible as the the size/year/make of engine.

My bell housing is either from a 54+ 235 or a 216. It had a 139 tooth flywheel with the 9 inch clutch setup. I acquired a 168 tooth flywheel for my 12V starter and found out it requires a 10 inch clutch setup. In case anyone doesn't know, the 9" clutch bolt pattern is smaller than the 10", of course, so my old won't even bolt up.
What I want to find out is if the perpendicular distance from the clutch/flywheel mating surface to the throughout bearing/pressure plate mating surface is different between the 9 and 10 inch clutch setups. Ultimately I want to know if it will fit in my bell housing with my original clutch fork arm, or if I need to find another bell housing and clutch fork arm. To use the same fork and throughout bearing, as I see it, would require that distance to be the same. Also, the distance the pressure plate spring depresses would need to be the same.

It will either be short or long. The clutch fork will accept either bearing. I believe you can use an 11 inch clutch in place of the 10 inch clutch. You can usually get a clutch kit from NAPA in a day or 2. If you have a GMC, you will have to order the ND7109 pilot bearing seperately. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 203 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2008 Posts: 203 | Big Daddy, you rock. By the way, it's a 261.
