The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop 55.2 235 unidentified Exhaust flange piece

I'm pulling everything external and labeling parts so I can remove my 55.2 235 3100 engine and do a full teardown and I can't identify a part/hole on the exhaust manifold. Something used to be connected to the hole, but is no longer.

The second from the firewall exhaust flange has a moveable (up & down) shield(?) I tried to show in the pictures, but am I missing a connecting line or something where the drilled hole is?

Can anyone tell me if this is an exhaust heat shield or hole for an auto choke carb connection?

The truck came with a manual choke carb (which I want to get back too), but a Rochester BC auto choke carb with nothing connected to the coil spring was added sometime ago.

Thank you kindly for the advice & I hope this is not a dumb question- I couldn't find the part/adaptation in the manual.

Here is a picture, sorta. As close as I could find. The hole in the manifold is for the heat tube on the automatic choke. I would just close it up and carry on. You did say you wanted the manual choke right? Put a plug in with some good anti-seize and drive happy.

Nope- an "automatic choke stove" will not be needed when I put a manual choke carb back on- thanks Steve_H!

But, the "hot air tube connection" is missing nevertheless.

Good lesson there on manual research- if it didn't come standard on the truck, find the manual for the vehicle it DID come standard on...
