We have a 1960 Canadian Pontiac under renovation. The engine, a 261 inline six, needs to repainted. It seems to have been green, but does anyone know the exact shade of the green?

Por-15 supplies "Austin Healey Green" and "Ford Green" engine enamels. Which one is closer to the original?

261 Strato-Six,

Jim Carter Antique Truck Parts used to sell a green spray-can paint for the 261 (USA). If I can find the can and top-cover, I will take it to a store and see if there is a color that matches it (if you want me to do so).

261 Strato-Six,

The paint was made/sold be Oioneer Inc. Automotive Products, Meridian, MS. Fat Drying, Heat Resistant, Engine Enamel (11 oz spray can). Product Code: T-23V ALPINE GREEN (UPC: 27993 06720). There is also a color formula that I will post later (when I find my glasses).

Tim,

Very nice - thanks. That color closely matches the top/cover of the Jim Carter spray-can paint for the 261 engine.

My local paint shop sells PPG colors but they couldn't find anything on the paint code. Does anyone have a more precised formula?

Strato,

It seems odd that a PPG jobber cannot find that code. These guys do not sell PPG paints but they recognize the PPG code, 44357.

I'm in need of some pictures of green 261's for a reference. It seems to be impossible to find Alpine Green here in Finland. All pictures are welcome and very appriciated! You can e-mail me at this address:

I painted mine with O'reily's Performance Green Engine paint made by Duplicolor, and I am happy with it. Standing side by side with the correct color even the experts around here have a hard time telling which one is correct. For a 100% correct rod I would say find a good paint guy, for a good daily driver or modest show truck I am happy with the Duplicolor stuff.
