Hi, this is my first post but have been gathering info for awhile. I'm from just north of Kansas Ciy Missouri and have a first series 47 half ton. I bought it 8 years ago already restored, however the paint and body work was not that good. It had one of those 10 footer paint jobs. I am now in the process of re-restoring it. My goal is it make it just like it came out of the factory because it still has all original sheet metal, 216 engine, 4 speed trans and rearend. The chassis is pretty much done. We just rebuilt and installed the 216. Working on getting the body straight now. This is a great website.

Welcome to the Stovebolt. Its nice to know you got your hands on an original and plan to keep it that way. Congrats on your find. Folks where are very willing to help and there is almost un-limited knowledge her. Just post in the best forum for maximum results.

Thanks guys, I've already been looking around in the paint and body section since that's the stage I'm in now.

I've been a few times to the Midwest All Truck Nationals. I used to me a member of the truck club that put it on.

A little late but welcome. On that tranny I'm wondering which 4 speed you will run because the original 4 speed in both 47s was unsyncronized. Gotta watch out for that if your not comfortable running it. It had a reverse lockout on the side of the shifter. SM420 is what usually is what is swapped out for. I will be following your build closely because I have the late 47.

Zach you're correct the 4 speed is unsyncronized. When I bought the truck I couldn't test drive it cause I didn't know how to shift it. I am going to stick with the 4 speed. I cant bring myself to change anything since it has made it so many years without losing any major pieces. What is a sm420?

I think the SM420 was longer than the earlier 4-speed. If that is correct, a drive-shaft-length change would be needed.

It sounds like shifting the original transmission does not bother you. Stick with it (sorry about the pun).
