My chev manual said that the # stamped on the out side will tell you if 1/2 - 3/4 - 1 ton ect. It said on the right side tells us that it is a 1/2 ton. On top it would be 3/4 and 1 ton. The number is on the right side and the # is 8698535. I think that it would make it a 4:11 and not a 4:57.
What I am trying to do is change the ring and pinion to get my rpms down when going to shows. Jim Carter has one that they say will work for the 4:11 taking it to 3:55. Other then that I would put in a gear vender. Much Much cheaper to do the ring and pinion. Thank you for any input. | | | | | Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: May 2006 Posts: 8,351 | If you have either the 3/4 or 1 ton axle, the ring and pinion kit will not work, as it is only for 1/2 ton rearends. The number you posted is a casting number, the ID number should be stamped on the top of the carrier at the right side, and should be a 2 letter/3 digit code, example; "XX 123". The only gears available on 3/4 and 1 ton were 4.56 and 5.13, respectively.
