we just came across what was sold to us as a '46 but we're having problems verifying that...

i have confirmed the engine to be a 216 via the casting stamp, and have managed to find a bundle of number on what was left of the "vin" plate..... they are as follows

58 - lower half center of plate
2 5727 - left hand side of plate
9BL41 - bottom center of plate
5092 - bottom right hand corner of plate

any information would be greatly appreciated!!

41 and 46 trucks had chrome grills, etc. Looks like you might have a 42 or 45, but it's hard to tell from the pic. I don't know the vin decoding for american trucks, but someone will chime in.

Need more pictures of the truck itself. Casting # on engine block would help identify the date of engine manufacture.

the casting number on the engine was 839910.. which means '42-'51 from what ive been able to find.

directly to the left of the distributor was a boss with a weird stamping
picture

i have measured the axles and did find it to be 125 inches so i believe it is a 3/4 ton

Thanks Tom!

so am i to assume that the engine is not original to the truck since it was stamped BF for 1 ton-HD and the truck is a 3/4? or would it be possible that it was made with a HD engine in it?

another question i have is about the bed. it has a metal floor in it.. would that have been an option in 42? i assumed that it should have been wood slats?
