Can't seem to find any AD Suburbans available for sale is there a reason why maybe no one wants to sell them or there isn't that many.
Not talking about completely original ones but something that is driveable, with a V8 and auto and newer seats.

Don't think I can actually answer your question except for the fact we know there is not many and folks tend to hang onto them.

This may be some good reading for you from the panel/burb forum..

https://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=243268#Post243268

I don't think there has been a 'separate" total of panels and burbs but regardless, they ARE getting harder to find. I'm currently watching one that is about 100 miles from me and is a one ton.
I also feel "some" got crushed when metal prices went up that had been in salvage yards?? I know of two parts vehicles that got crushed.
Maybe someone else has a better answer... maybe Tim, Marty, George, Cletis, or Weeds can chip in here.

Do a search on "www.adhuntr.com"
It will reveal what's for sale on Craigslist around the country.

Frank, I see that you are in the Northeast like me. With our weather, not a great chance to find subs that aren't rusted very badly. The last one for sale I saw 2 years ago was in Gettysburg.
It was a lot of money and needed a lot of work. Just have to keep searching. There is a fellow on here in PA that has several
in his barn, but I'll leave it up to him about possible sales.

Suburbans were about 7% (about 15,000) of the 1/2 ton truck production in 1950.

Suburbans were about 4% (about 6,600) of the 1/2 ton truck production in 1953.

So, the Suburbans were less common than pickup trucks and also less common than panel trucks.

The Suburbans originally cost 20% more than a pickup - I do not know if that has anything to do with their present day availability. Draw your own conclusions.

They're on eBay and Craigslist all the time, you shouldn't have that hard of a time finding one. The prices of them vary due to the condition.
Put an add in the trucks wanted forum, see what comes along.

Good luck !!!

I go by one often. I think it's a 46 gmc it's real rough and he is wants $4900 for it. Needless to say it's been for sale a long time.

These old bolts are in my blood. Hard thing is focusing on just one.

Marty, personally I don't mind "paying for it" as long as it's an honest, fair, and maybe a somewhat inflated price. However, I refuse to be taken advantage of and that is exactly what happens in some cases. You have folks wanting restored prices for a vehicle needing full restoration. I'm sure you know that drill.
But then there are folks with more money than they have sense. I refuse to be gouged.

But, as in all cases, a fair price is what someone will take and what someone will give as long as both parties are happy!

It also comes down to the basics of supply and demand. AD suburbans are getting harder and harder to find with each passing day. Those that have them for sale can ask more becuase your options are limited. It's really no different than anything else.

With that said keep the faith and keep looking. In July, I found a 53 Suburban which I understand were the fewest Suburban (by year) produced. I paid a fair price and it was 95% complete with little rust. Cheaper than what I have seen a lot of them go for.

Marc,

If you have GM production numbers by model in years other than 1951 and 1953, would be willing to share them?

I have only seen the model-production breakdown for two years: 1950 and 1953

The lowest production year for Advance -Design trucks was the partial-production year, 1947. 1952 was the lowest full-year production, about 40,000 total trucks less than in 1953.

The 47-55 production data at this link are not exactly the same as the GM data, perhaps because the GM data was by calendar year (tax year) and the other link might show production by model year?

Tim-

I'm afraid that I dont have any data. I was quotigng from your info above. It stuck with me having a 53 and reading that the production numbers were low.

"Seems like everyone wants one,,,nobody wants to pay for them."

Yep that says it all.

I think I got lucky with my suburbam project. I have seen many worst than mine in the rust department.

I have a good phrase for anyone here thinking about buying a suburban project.

"There is nothing more expensive than a cheap suburban."
