Getting ready to install new door glass in my 58 Apache. Got all the stuff from classic parts this week, looks like getting the glass back in the metal frames with the cork/rubber tape may be a pain.. any tips? Looked around on the net for advise but not much luck. Thanks.

If the metal frame surrounds the entire glass like on a pre-51 AD, I would use black RTV. It will seal out the rain and not be too difficult to remove if you ever break the glass. Some would recommend urethane sealant made for modern windshields, but this might be more trouble to remove than black RTV. Maybe an auto-glass expert can chime in to clarify. Or you could get lucky and stumble into the correct thickness of the setting tape and use that. I have done plenty of stumbling and have not had any luck.

The tape is very easy to use . Just coat it in light oil (3 in 1) works well and it will slip into the groove with a little gentle tapping with a rubber mallet .

Im with 52 Carl. The black silicone in the window channel, and then trim off the excess. Iv done many wing windows,,and door windows that way with excellent results.
Then youre not beating on the window/ channel trying to force them together. With all the Chinese/metric junk out there you never know what youre getting.

Right on. I used he Black stuff myself and it works good. My only advice is to cut the end of the tube big enough to really put it in the groove. It's messy trying to go back and "add" more to fill up the groove.... and don't worry about cleaning or wiping at it until it sets up. Then a sharp razor blade will do wonders cleaning it all up. After that, pat yourself on the back for doing such a nice job!!

I'm getting ready to do this next week. If I understand this correctly, fill the channel with RTV and then press the glass in which forces the RTV to seal the glass with the excess oozing out to be trimmed after it cured??

you got it Kenny. I'm sure you put a mark on the frame so you'll know just where it fits....right? I've never put one in an apache but a little warning here may help in the end???

Actually Alvin I did take a jeweler a file and make me a mark. I'm kind of a stickler for detail. Sometimes that's good and sometimes it works against me. I will try to post a picture Wednesday. Thanks for the advise
