old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 14 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 14 | Hey guys, I have a 1952 3100 with a 4 speed muncie in it. When I bought the truck, the PO pulled the transmission due to it "clicking." A friend gave me a good 4 speed muncie and I installed it in the truck last night. Unfortunately it seems like the u-joint that hooks to the transmission is to the right about 1/4 - 1/2 of an inch. Its close but not centered. Is there anything I can do? Thanks, Brad | | | | | Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2005 Posts: 6,100 | Hy anssec66, Check your engine mounts to make sure they are the same side to side and not all slimy from oil/grease contamination. If everything looks okay then you could try loosening the "U" bolts which hold the axle to the rear springs and then see if you can bring the torque tube into alignment with the transmission, hope that helps. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 202 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2008 Posts: 202 | Hi anssec66, It sounds like the truck was moved with the transmission removed, the rear end may have shifted a little. So what you want to do is jack up the back of the truck so that when you put jack stands under the frame the rear wheels are clear of the ground and the rear end is free to move side to side. There are bushings in the springs and they may be worn.
