First off its' a '64 Chevy 2-ton C-50 with a 250 6cyl std shift.

Well the starter has seen better days and decided to have it rebuilt (got a new one from Oreilly's that the bolts didn't line up from thicker snout flanges for some reason. took back)

Got the original rebuilt, put it on and was cleaning the wire connections from corrosion and such. decided to cut off damaged stuff and solder on new.

Everything is going as planned and I'm a happy boy until I notice that there seems to be an extra black wire that looked to be without eyelet or connector for some time since that particular wire was bent toward the bell housing and pretty stiff.(didn't remember taking it off)

So this is what I have so far to memory..
BIG RED + --going on main lug.
Yellow-- with BIG eyelet attached with BIG + (like I remember)
Purple-- to "S" on d/s of solenoid (where I've remembered and have done for decades)

another Black-- going to "R" on p/s of solenoid
(to regulator??)

I've googled for several hours and have just gotten more confused by some that added stuff and the so called 'stock' pics look like I've got it right.

OH, it was easier to put on a 'trigger' remote starter under the hood, so I wouldn't have to get out every time to try and turn it over..

Fired right up, tuned the rebuilt carb and got her running smooth. Did my little happy dance, stared at it for a while and thought I was done..
Turned the key to off and it kept running..
I was dark by then, so I pulled the coil wire off and went in.
Just a while ago tried to start and NOTHING... DEAD-DEAD..

I HATE WIRING AND IT DIDN'T HELP THAT I PULLED IT BEFORE THANKS GIVING.. But heck, it's only 4 wires..
I should be able to figure this out.

Camera's battery was down, so I'll take pics in a few hours.

THANKS E

It may be the solenoid. The small wire on the outside of the solenoid is to power the coil while in crank mode and then cut the connection once the starter is no longer in use. If that wire stays live, the solenoid is bad. I thought it was the yellow wire. If you have that on the big lug, that could be the reason the coil stays powered with the key off too.

What happened was when I took off the small leads and pushed them out of the way, Their form (from being on there for decades) made them pop right back on and couldn't see it. (I THOUGHT THAT THEY WERE OFF, SINCE I PUSHED THEM OFF)
And after the last bolt came out, I pretty much just guided it down without helping it much, and two of the eyelets tore off.

I put the large eyelet on the yellow coil wire (subsequently killing the battery over night)

Well, Calling around I found the harnesses to be back ordered..
Just went to store and picked up 18ga wire and made my own harness from fire wall ends.
Just can't seem to find the right male-spade that's like the original to 'clip' in.

Even this harness from Tuckers doesn't show a small wire with a large eyelet.. Hhmm?
BUT you can see the spades inside the plug that have that split.

Napa has them. Believe they're the same terminals that go into the firewall connector on my 68 C 20. Flat spade with a slit in it. Don't have the part number though, sorry.
