Following the manual instructions it says 'remove the ferrule retaining nut with the appropriate tool' but where exactly is the ferrule nut? and what is the appropriate tool? The nut has to be holding everything in place but it's hard to see back there and I dont want to force anything and end up breaking something. Everything is old and hard to get loose. Anyone know how it comes apart? Thanks. | | |

It requires a special spanner to remove it, but I find that a pair of fine needle nose or snap ring pliers works equally as well. Once it has been removed, the switch will come out easily.

It screws into the front of the light switch, though the dash panel. The shaft and knob come out by pulling it towards you and pushing the little button on the bottom of the switch. Some times you have to work it in and out a little to get it to come free. | | |

I took out the dash gauges and and light cluster unit -- took the speedometer apart. Everything seemed to work ok. The only thing I think might not be working right is the little hair spring that keeps the needle at zero and lets it move smoothly when it works right. When I put it back in it worked better but not smoothly enough to be accurate. I know there are places that repair old meters but I think I'll go with new gauges and wiring to replace the old idiot lights. I have read on here that dolphin gauges and EZ wiring are a good way to go. I'm tired of not knowing how much gas I have left or how fast I'm going.
