When I click on the link in the last post, it goes to 2 pictures showing the head with the holes and one showing the intake. However, to answer your question better, it is in the head-there are 3 holes, 1/8" in diameter, non-threaded and just below each of the intake ports. The intake gasket covers the holes when mounted. It is the center hole that the coolant comes out of. I have emailed Tom at Langdons and he just responded back. Tom has indicated that they are not factory drilled holes and he has no idea why they are there. Tom suggest tapping the holes 1/4-20, installing a set screw with Loctite on them.

Lol, it is so frustrating to get this link working. I have followed the instructions but I must be doing something wrong. Please bear with me as I try to get it correct. All of your input is greatly appreciated, believe me. Pic's I believe

Drill an 1/8" hole through your hinge and into the pillar, that way you can line it back up when it goes back together.
I wonder if someone did that with your head. Maybe they had an aftermarket intake and didn't have the alignment collars.
No telling what went on in a 60 year old engine.

I have had the truck since 2002, had a rebuild in 2006 and just had a valve job done as I dropped a valve seat. It has had a Clifford manifold on it since I have had it. Possible it had a plug that came out during the revalve but I don't think so. No leaks out of the other two holes under the other intake ports, either. It has been suggested to put a 1/4-20 thread in it and use a set screw with Loctite to seal the hole. Just not sure about the coolant issue, though. I have no idea about the cooling jacket, etc.

I would just tap it and put a set screw in there with a sealer and make it flush or just a bit below and forget it. There are water cavities in there for cooling. So just close it up and you should be just fine. You won'y hurt any thing by closing it off. As for why there is a hole? Whitedog has as good a guess as I could think of. Might have used a pin to keep it all aligned. There would have been a corresponding hole in the manifold but who knows when or what manifold was on there. Like I said there would be no harm in closing that hole up. Cost? about $1 and your time. Gotta buy the set screw.:)

The answer may never be found unless you could back track the owners which, I suspect, is doubtful. I agree with the others. Plug it and go. | | | | Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: 28 New Guy | New Guy Joined: Aug 2002 Posts: 28 | Well I tend to agree with the idea of tapping the hole and putting in a set screw just below the surface. I will probably use some Permatex Ultra Copper sealer to finish the hole off flush. I appreciate all of the input, there really is a wealth of information on this forum!
