Anyone running a tach in their 6 Volt truck? What are you using and where did you get it? New or used? What do I need to be considering when looking for one? Can a 12V tach be used if I have a 6V to 12V inverter? Any help is appreciated! Thanks, Jim

To use a 12V tach on 6V you need to also change the internal lighting bulb to 6v. Really best to get a 6V tach.

Most aftermarket Tachs also have a selector for number of cylinders that needs to be set.

Lets not get misinformed here. You would only need a dropping
resistor if you had a 12v system and needed to drop it to 6v.
You Jim, are going in the opposite direction, you need to boost
the 6v up to 12v. Do that with an inverter. Not only will one
of these power your 6v tach but it will power your modern 12v
radio/player or use it to charge up your cell phone etc. Here
is the one I have mounted under my dash in my '50, 3600:

Now the tach. The ones made for 6v are quite pricy, like over
$150. With the booster you can use a 12v tach like the small
SunPro 2 5/8" for about $30. I got mine for under the at
Farm & Fleet but here's one at Summit for about the same. It
works just fine with my stock AD truck:

I found an old vintage 6v DixCo tach being sold on the AD Tech Info and Swap Meet Facebook group. It's electric and does not need a secondary box to run it, wires right up to the dizzy and a power source.

Hey buddy no need for that, ya just dozed off and veered off
the road a bit and I was just grabin' the wheel. Don't let that

If your lucky Eric, but those are few and far between. The
SunPro tachs are available everywhere and cheap. The extra
expense for the voltage booster is not wasted though, as I
stated it can be use to power other 12v devices that you
might want to install.

I got real lucky...only paid $40 shipped for it too.

On Denny Graham's advice.. I got the same 12v boost and it works awesome! I have kickbutt stereo with bluetooth hands-free phone connection. Thanks for sharing your knowledge Denny!
