Has anybody tried swapping out a front axle assy with springs and steering linkage on an AD. I was thinking about replacing a 3/4 or 3600 axle with a 1/2 or 3100 axle in a 1949 Chevrolet Pickup truck? I've heard different stories reguarding what works together and what parts don't. Thanks

I know of a couple guys using 1/2 ton drop axles under 3/4 ton trucks. I think Mike's screen name here is coach somethingorother... I'll drop him a line on facebook, hopefully he can help out.

I want to do the same. What is everyone doing with their axels for 3100 after their frame swap/ clip? I need on to toss under my 53 3600.

I bolted a 1/2 GMC axle under mine, after I had Sid lower it 4". It bolted right up to the stock 3600 springs.

I was told, and have read that the 3600 and the 3100 springs are the same, only the axles were different.

All the steering stuff from the steering box to the steering arms is the same from 3100 to 3600.
