Hello, I am new here. Terrible with computer stuff and am always trying to gather information on restoring trucks. I have a 70 C 20 that I want to fix up. Has a 350 in it with a 3 speed automatic tranny. I have never went through a truck before so I don't know much. I drive it a few times every couple weeks but I just don't know where to start with my project. Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Thank you

Welcome to the bolt!. Since you're new and want to learn, I suggest you join this GROUP immediately. You can't go wrong hanging around these guys. Buy plenty of hand cleaner and rags, you are going to need them. Buy a shop manual, buy a shop manual, buy a shop manual! Take the truck to a local mechanic that has lot's of experience with these trucks and have him do a thorough inspection and have him give you a detailed report on what needs to be done. Listen to what he says and concentrate on the safety issues first, don't go off and buy some cool wheels and shiny parts before you fix what needs to be fixed.

Don't get discouraged when you find out that this truck needs work that you did not know about, that's what owning old trucks is all about and why guys like them. If you wanted a new truck you would have saved the money to buy one. .......g

PS: I forgot to mention, Buy a shop manual!

Welcome to the site. Get it to stop and get it to go, make sure everything is safe. Some people like to use it while they work away at it. Then you won't lose interest or ambition. I got a shop manual right at the beginning, find parts suppliers and ask here if you run stuck.

70LB C20, welcome to the Stovebolt. First THANK YOU for serving our country. God Bless.

Depending on what part of Ga. your in you could be close to me!!
I'm not computer savy either but if you just take your time, little by little it will all work out.... at least you can get around the Bolt and that's the main thing!

The guys above have given good advice. Take it slow and easy and as you drive your truck it will let you know what it needs. Ask any questions in the most appropriate forum for the max results. Don't worry about asking simple, or as some would say stupid, questions. We have ALL done it so as Leo says, don't be shy. We're here to help.

If you email me your email address I'll add you to the list of Southern Stovebolters. My email is in my profile. Just click on my name and you'll get a "drop down" with how to do things. Good luck.

Pictures, take plenty of pics as you go along. If you take something off get a photo of what you are doing. I've found out in my project, a '49 chev 6100, I did not take enough.

Welcome to the Stovebolt, ssgintx. That's some good advice you have given there. Heck, I took pictures but should have taken more.
I see your now a member of the Texas Connection. There is a good group out there. Check in with them in the Texas forum of the side lot area.

Remember at the top of the page you can click on MY STUFF and one of the lines of the drop down is "view post". Sometimes it helps me to remember where I been smile

Take your time and "learn" the bolt. There is just so much it takes a little time to get the full experience, and now that you have 4 post under your belt you can now send PM's and enjoy all the Stovebolt benefits.....
and Ga. is close to Spartanburg. Come this way and stop for hot dogs and cold pepsi.... and if your close to the Alanta Dragway you need to meet Brad54 and set up a little bolter get together on the first Saturday of each month smile Brad is THE man at the swap meet each month.
