I have found there is two lengths of 12 volt generators for the 50s Chevrolets. I am suspecting that it is a differences in amperage. Can anyone shed some light on this?

I don't believe Chevy 6 cylinders were equipped with anything above 35 amp, but with a longer mounting bracket and a correct regulator the high-output generator could be retro-fitted.
