I need some help! I have a 1966 C60 2 ton and I am trying to pull the 327 out of it without pulling the transmission as well. I have taken out the floor pans on the inside. (the ones that bolt down above the transmission) so i have taken out 4 of the bolts that i could reach from the inside. When i went underneath to find the rest of them i couldn't. How many bolts are there all together and what are their locations... do i need to take off the starter and oil filter to get to them? Im still kinda a newb with all this so any help would be great!!! thanks in advance! oh, and it is a 4 speed manual with 2 speed rear

It may be easier to split the engine at the bell housing to block. Remove the bell housing bolts that go into the block. I think that you have mounts on the bell housing that hold it to the frame.

Traditionally there are 6 bolts holding the bellhousing to the engine. It sounds like you have not removed the bolts below the alignment pin on either side. They may be covered in gook and you might have to dig for them. If the starter is bolted to the bellhousing, I suggest removing it as well. Remember to remove the sheet metal lower dust shroud from below, it has to come off too.

I hope this link works, it is a drawing of the rear of a v8 block:

Unfortunately Macgyver37, that link didn't work. I am sure they are covered in crud since the rest of the trucks underneath is covered. Sounds like i need to just start scraping and searching.

Hairy, you might want to double check things. Your truck should have a 13" clutch. This takes a different bellhousing. I would have to go out and check my C50 to double check the number of bolts.

If the larger bellhousing, also used by GMC, sort of circular bolt pattern, there might be a .25" adapter plate sandwiched between the bellhousing and engine. The trans./bellhousing should only have 4 bolts, however, the bottom ones might have the heads inside the belllhousing(threads in trans.)
