Hi Everyone,

I am getting ready to set an original 1955.1 six in my truck (1955 first series). Currently there is a 1956 V8 in it and my replacement engine did not come with all of the mounting hardware so I am having to guess at a few things. I did read earlier posts on engine mounting and they were very helpful, but I am hoping someone could help me with a few questions.

1. My Shield on the front motor mount has enlarged holes from the metal in the metal/rubber mount rubbing through. As long as it can still act as a shield am I okay to use it?

2. The special washer that sits between the front mount and the cross member was 3/16inch originally. Can I just use 3 regular washers stacked up here because the special washer is unavailable?

3. The thick special washers that hold the front mount together (inner two holes) are also unavailable. Can I stack washers here to? It looks like I just have to be sure that I do not contact the front cross member so the mount can float.

4. Front mount rubber. Are there better/worse ones to buy aftermarket. I thought I read that they were not quite as thick as the originals.

5. Rear mount. I see in the parts book there is a "Mounting Assembly Lower" pn 3705447 and I can get it from truckandcarshop.com, what is the purpose of this? I am guessing the lower mounts just rest over the rear cross member and does not bolt to the rear cross member (again, so it can float)

I found a good picture of this and I can see it is a rubber/metal mount similar to the upper-rear mount. It looks like it fits inside the rear cross member. Okay on this question :-)

6. Rear mount bolt lock, pn 37172280. Is this available anywhere or do you just use locktite?

I truly appreciate any advice you can give, thank you dearly.

Joe

Joe -

The post below lists the modern replacement suppliers and item numbers for the fasteners used on motor mounts. This includes the thick washers for the front mounts and the bolt locks for the rear mounts. Most of the fasteners are from Fastenal. The Truck Shop has the bolt locks. Most suppliers sell reproduction shield for the front mount. Don't know if reproduction retainers are available. I don't believe anyone sells a reproduction plate for the front mount.
