Hello Everyone!

I purchased my Burb October, 2011. I wanted a Chevy but this vehicle was in such remarkable condition that I had to have it. I've done very little mechanical work on it. The vehicle was a daily driver and it was well maintained. I did replace the wiring harness and converted it to 12 volt negative ground! with an alternator.

The next item on the agenda is the rear end. It will only go 50mph on the freeway so, I need to replace the gears or the whole differential. I know there must be many of you that have already done that and I'd love to get some ideas. I also have a 1948 Chevy COE! I'm so glad I was told about this site. I'm in Southern California, are there any local stovebolters out there?

That's a great looking Suburban, I am partial to GMC Suburbans myself, they grow on you over time. Have you considered installing 3:55 gears to replace the 4:11's that you have now? It will get you more speed and a quieter ride too. This allows you to keep the original transmission and torque tube rear end. If you like doing your own work and have the tools and the space to do it, there is lot's of information to assist you. If you don't like doing this kind of work, I am sure that there is someone in your area that can. There is a guy in Arizona that sells the kit too, not just Patricks, although Patricks can answer many of the questions that you may have regarding installation.

Remember for every action there is a reaction, so when you change the tire diameter you could be affecting your RPM'S too. These trucks were designed around a 31" high tire, installing a shorter tire will result in higher RPM'S. Good luck! ......g

I agree that is a nice looking burban. I am a chevy guy, but I too could probaby not pass on that gmc. I'm also in So Cal Los Angeles. I have a 52 chevy Burb and a few other toys. If you need mechanical work, I recommend Joe Epstein of Epstein restorations in Montebello. He's been in the game a long time and can do pretty much anything. Nice bike too by the way!

Get Patricks 3.55 Rear end kit installe and you will be much happier. I have changed the rear end on all four trucks and suburbans I have had. Much happier and safer on freeway.
