It seems like some folks are having problems with Petronius,and when I was much younger the Mallory seemed to be the dominant ign system, just wondering what other people think about them thanks , pat

Pertronix needs the proper voltage range, at least 3 ohms resistance from the coil, and they don't like it when you forget to turn off the key for a long period of time (coil doesn't like it either). Keep in mind that we hear more from people with problems than we do from those who are happy with their conversion. Your choice should be based on what YOU want. Pertronix looks more like stock and is easier to install and less expensive than the Mallory setup (at least the one that I am familiar with). But if you want a bad*ss ignition system to go along with the other high performance upgrades you make, then you may want to go with the Mallory or something similar. I went with the Pertronix and cannot believe the improvement it has made on my 235.

I have the old Magnetic Breakerless, which has been replaced with a Unilite version. If you're running a stock coil with a ballast resistor (these are 12 volt distributors), it'll run fine. However, if you're going to run a hotter coil, then you'll want to add a spark control box, such as a 3RLi. Otherwise, it seems that the coil does not get enough power.

It is well liked all over the internet and here. If you want reliability and don't care about orig, do HEI. But of course I have no idea what truck or motor you have. I read most of your posts and didn't see you ever say? Please let us know if you have an actual truck and with what motor. If you don't have an actual application and are just wondering out loud, this all belongs in the greasy spoon section or general talk.
