I have a fuel pump plumbing question. 58 with 235 and double action fuel pump. My fuel pump has a connection from the tank (in). A connection to the carburetor (out). Below, left, engine side, a vacume connection that goes to the wiper motor. Below, left, fender side a connection with rubber tubing approx. 8" that is not connected to anything. Do any of you know what this is for. Also, the right mounting bolt has a nipple. Should something be connected to this? Thanks for yor help.

The unconnected goes to vacuum source (intake manifold) to operate wipers or more correctly "assist" on hills and acceleration. They were plumbed with a short hose then steel tubing. Nipple? As in where a hose connects or is it a grease zerk?

The right side mounting bolt on the fuel pump is one piece. Threaded end , bolt head, with a stem for tubing. The manifold stem has tubing that goes through the firewall to the wiper motor as well.

Pictures please, I know I am having a hard time "Seeing" what you are trying to describe.

The right side mounting bolt is hollow with a stem for a hose. Not sure where a hose from this stem would connect. Also, there are two stems on the left bottom. One of these has a short two inch rubber tube then steel line then rubber tubing that goes to the wiper motor. The 2nd stem has an approx. 8" piece of rubber tubing that is not attached to anything. I'm in the process of re-assembly after engine rebuild. Fuel pump worked fine as is before and wipers worked as well. The repair manual describes this bolt with reassembly instruction to re-attach hose. I have steel tubing going from the vacume advance on the distributor to the carb, and rubber tubing going from the manifold also to the wiper motor. Would appreciate any pictures of plumbing for a fuel pump like mine. Thanks.

The vacuum line from the intake manifold does not go to the wiper motor - it should go to one of the ports on the bottom of the dual-action fuel pump. Another line should run from the other port on the bottom of the fuel pump to the wiper motor.

You have a 50-50 chance of getting the port connections on the bottom right.

The ports might be labelled:

"Manifold" or "In" goes to the intake manifold vacuum port.
(Might also be labelled "L1" or "1").

"Wiper" or "Out" goes to the wipeer motor
(Might also be labelled "L2" or "1").

Are the ports on the bottom of the pump labelled?

Thanks Tim. The bottom inside port is labeled in. The connection goes along the side cover and to the wiper motor. The bottom outside port (out) has the 8" hose. Could this connect to the hollow mounting bolt stem? It's about the right length.
