Fantastic build man - can't wait to see completion!!

Started working on the doors cleaning off the dirt and rust welding some holes and knocking out dents, I have a lot of hardware missing so thats going to take some tracking down as well as missing glass all adds to the fun I guess.

Slow progress on the truck posted some of the latest pictures, hope to get back into it now the weather is picking up

We all look for the decent weather to get moving again. Good progress overall though.

Glad to see what you got done. I've got about the same done. Been fixin the house for the new grandchild, she will be here in about a week. I have'nt been able to work on mine the last couple months. I'll be back to it soon. Ran into a guy Sun. who had a 41. He put it on a 88 S10 Blazer frame. Did all the fabrcation his self. Said it was'nt easy. He had to cut the bed shorter It looked real good. The V6 sounded like a V8. Money and time! If we only had more. Steve

I now have my rear fenders so I can plan the bed and work out the size looking like a 6'x 4'

I had my steel delivered in the week for the bed 2" thin wall box section is what I decided on, cut it up yesterday to my desired lengths my plan for today is to tack weld it and have a trial fit will try to post some pictures in the album later today

Since your bed will be slightly "custom", it'll be interesting to compare it to stock when done. And I just noticed your new rear fender pic. They are nice.

Had another idea for when I skin the bed I was thinking of using some large head rivets to fix the sheet metal to the frame should give it a tough almost aircraft look will try it on a sample to see if I like the look.

I managed to get my rear fenders mounted its starting to look like a truck now, I just need to extend the running boards maybe make some kind of step side in that area, this will tax my fabrication skills which have been at the limit on several parts of this build, some new pics in the album

Okay, now I see more clearly where you headed, I think. But, If your custom bed doesn't extend further than the fabricated frame, doesn't that leave the tailgate too close to your rear fenders, and perhaps a bumper. Or am I optically challenged here?

There is 3" clearance from the back edge of the fenders to the bed frame upright it just looks like they overhang in one of the pictures, the tail gate will hinge from the back cross member and sit flush inside the rear opening, need to figure out the hinge and lock systems have a few ideas I will try, also need to box in the space under the bed and frame at the rear I am thinking license plate lights and louvers for this space.

Ordered my sheet steel last week will be ready for collection Tuesday fabricated the tail gate today made the hinge and locks looks pretty good all be it basic will post some pics when I get a grip on this new laptop with windows 8 my old one crapped out last week

Nice basic hinge and tailgate latch application. Should be a clean look when the tailgate is finished. Also like you're new web look. Certainly easier on these old eyes.

The steel has been delivered cut to size, have a little fab work to make it fit but should have a bed by the end of this weekend

Finished up the fabrication on the bed painted the underside and mounted it on the frame, posted some pictures in the album

That is a formidable bed. Are you considering any louvers or air holes in the removable panel just to cut drag a little?

Its added a little weight to a very light back end, I cant wait to drive it again before with no bed the slightest quick throttle response and it would spin the wheels still think I have a problem with my TPS but the bed has got to help.
I have thought about louvers or doing something with the license plate are to allow air flow

Fitted my lights to the rear panel and started fabricating the running board extension, pics in the album

Finished one side of the running board must say a lot more work than anticipated and a little over engineered but I like the finished product should look good when painted

Have some paint on the running board extensions plus finished the rear panel with the LED lights, next will be exhaust side pipes and air intakes, pics in the album.

Yep, I was looking at your pics earlier today. Seems real close to being on the road.

Sorry was not ignoring you just did not realize we had turned the page now 15 pages and I am sure there will be more, The ridges are 1/2" strip tack welded on I do not have the fabrication skills or tools and equipment to make a seamless running board it was always going to be obviously an extended piece I just tried to make it easier on the eye.
On my list of things to do exhaust system, Air intakes, fuel tanks and drive shaft still a lot to be done.

But it's really looking like a truck again Paul,nice job on the running board filler sections too.

Its coming together now still a lot to do but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel

like the Churchill quote read a book on his life a remarkable man love him or hate him a real wordsmith he was.

As you get closer you'll find all the little jobs you've been skirting around Paul but the truck's looking great,and the check list will be getting smaller by the day.

Re: The Churchill comment,perhaps it's a little OTT but 'we Scots' can claim quite a few remarkable discoveries and inventions.....but then I am a little biased of course!

I like the side pipes. '40 will sound stout I bet. I have to admit, your bed throws me at times. I keep looking for the side flares and stake pockets!

It looks good when the hood is fitted everything is in line but I think your right I need to put something on there to break it up and take some of the height out of it

Busy day today I have some hard wood flooring I want to fit on the bed floor also my side pipes need to be hooked up to the manifold down pipes my two goals for today

Just curious as to what hardwood you are using. There is another bed wood discussion here on Stovebolt with the suggestion to use Ipe.

I am not sure Drew its nothing special but as I have a custom bed so its going to be different I am looking to hinge a section at the cab end for access to the gas tanks, that's the plan anyway

Certainly see a lot of tank access on beds being done on early pickups. All kinds of clever ways with a fair amount of already available systems. Should be a cinch once you're through the planning stage.

Have my bed wood completed and now need to fit out the gas tanks with the senders, filler necks and feed and return found a neat unit from Tanks Inc has feed, return, and vent in one flange type fitting. pics in the album

If that's just knotty pine sheet paneling, the stain came out great. Will the front panel over the tanks just lift out or will it be hinged eventually? Agreed on Tanks. A good supplier.

Its a tongue and groove pieces milled to look like 2 inch strips I have it screwed at each center and its hinged for access to the filler necks, got my tanks fitted out just need to connect the valve and fuel cooler to the tanks and wire the selector valve, a few more picks in the album

Tanks all complete just need to position the selector switch in the cab probably go under the dash left hand side with a center off position then left or right for either tank
