I purchased new taillights and front running light for the truck with dual filaments. On the rear of the truck someone had hung a second set of lights for turn lights. There are four wires going to the back.I think its one for the taillights. One for the brakelight and two for the turn lights. Do I just splice the turn light to the brake light wire to use the new tail lights as turn lights.Or does anyone have a wiring diagram that will show this installation.

But if it didnot have turn signals you will need to install a turn signal switch that will also let you use the stop lamp feature. Some of the origional aftermerket turn signal switches require separate lights for turn signals and brake lamps. The newer ones will let you combine the turn signals and brake lamps together in the same bulb. You will only need 3 wires; lt. turn, rt. turn, and park lamp wires.
For the old style turn signal switch you will have 4 wires. Lt. turn, rt. turn,park lamp, and brake lamp.

But that is a little too far advanced for most people to understand. So go get a new style turn signal switch and use only 2 lamps.

I think I must have the old style then because I have four wires going to the rear of the truck. It sounds like you answered my question though. Because what I needed to know is if I would be splicing into the brake light wire to get the turn signals to work. Is this correct.

It appears you have an after-market switch similar to the first one listed. This type switch uses separate wires for the brake lights and for the turn lights. The four wires you have are probably brake, tail, left, right. You cannot use one set of lights for both with this type of switch. The ideal solution would be a factory switch from a parts truck. I just put one in my '56 and I love it. No more forgetting to cancel the signal. | | |
