So, hey Guys - my 1st stab at seeking some help from the group in figuring out my heater issue.
Truck in question is my '59 Apache with Deluxe controls, recently resurected after a 6-7 year slumber. The heater core was not connected at all, fast forward and a rebuilt heater core was installed, hoses hooked up, Ranco valve was worked/loosened up and re-installed. Nothing is leaking, fan motor blows, accessory engine temp gauge reads a tick below 180 deg.
The hang up is, I will have warm air after moving the temperature lever from cool to warm for 30 or so seconds. The air exiting the fan then gradually cools to where it doesn't feel like it is being heated at all. If I move the lever back up to cool and drive for a couple of minutes, then move it back down, I'll have warm air again for that 30 or so seconds.
With a finger tip I can feel the inlet side of the heater core, it is hot! On the discharge side, it isn't so hot, of course some drop is to be expected, but for what I'm getting out in heat, it doesn't seem to add up thermally.
My thought is a clogged or low flow in the Ranco valve. By shutting the flow off for a minute or so, the heater core has time to heat up, opening the valve/vent door then lets out some heated air until the heater core cools down from low coolant flow.
Thoughts?
