I have a 1949 4100 Chevy with a dump bed. I am wanting to do something different for the gas tank because I would like to get it out of the cab. I'm a little worried about mounting a new tank out side for the frame rails but I'm afraid that I don't have any space because of the dump bed.
The dump bed has a wench and cable system so I am wanting to see if there was an option already available or fi I am going to have to fabricate something new.
Any advice would be great!

I did this to my '56 pickup and the tank is half under the bed and half under the cab...just a thought... Mike B | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,877 . | . Actually in 48 they were outside the cab, then in 49 GM put them back in the cab where they were for many more years. | | | | Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 26 Wrench Fetcher | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Dec 2012 Posts: 26 | Mike,
I am going to take some measurements and see what room I do have. Was just wondering if anyone had already done this with a 4100 flat bed.
By the way, I looked at the picture of the 56 8400 Wrecker. AWESOME!!! That think is WAY COOL!

I am a little worried about having that tank in the cab in the event of an accident. Although, anymore if I hit something or someone hits me with the way these trucks are built I may not even notice. Plastic new car VS. All steel old truck is no match.
Have you finished the 48 with the diesel conversion? I see the one picture with the diesel in the frame with no body on it. I would love to drop a Duramax into a old truck.
