I have a question about front fenders. I have a 56 GMC a fella is working on for me and had bought Dynacorn 1957 front fenders for it. I was always under the impression that 55-57 fenders and doors were the same. actually dynacorn's doors are 55-59. we worked on mounting the fenders last week but had trouble having a match at the door upper part in the curve between the door and fender, and also the reveal seems too low on both sides. the cowl fit isn't bad and the door gaps are reasonable. the fella from dynacorn says the 55-56 fenders are a different curve on the top of them along with the "line" above the fender is more prominent...(reveal?) I don't know what to think, the truck has their doors on also. I tried to find nice original ones but nothing local here. just wondered if any of you guys had any experience with this and why that company makes one door and 2 different fenders (55-56 and 57)..are GMC fenders the same as a chevy? thanks

57 fenders are different than 5/6's around the grill opening to accommodate a different grill mount bolt pattern [and GMC grill is different than Chev too], otherwise they should be identical, the doors are the same 55-59 ... the problem is mostly that the factory stuff varied and whatever they used for a pattern for their production of any year part, will vary from what was on any given truck, except the one that part came off of, if they used factory engineering drawings, there will be some variance from what actually came off the line in 55 or 56 or 57

I've only seen a couple out of very many that the curves at the top of the door/fender interface matched real well [see green truck slight mismatch], but that feature line should match pretty well, and can be tweaked a bit using body shims on the fender top rear mount point, maybe not as much as you need tho - note that the fenders should be slightly proud of the door to avoid binding and wind whistling

it's definitely a job to get parts not "native" to the truck to fit well, but Dynacorns are as good as you'll find

thanks,red..so with him buying 57 chevy fenders, other than adapting the U-brace and things, will the 56 GMC grille and mustache cover up any "chevy" areas? another thing I thought of looking at your pics. The bottom of the front fenders by the doors stuck down below the rocker area 1/2" or so. when we bolted them up I push up pretty hard and tighten the bolts to try to get them close to being even down there. all you say is probably quite true. I was really wondering about the quality and fit of this brand

the GMC grill requires more holes than the Chev outside of the actual grill opening, where the parking light 'extensions' wrap out around the front, don't know if it uses all the Chevy mount holes, but should hide them .... I think most of Dynacorns parts are stamped offshore, but they came up with good GM specs to work from and seem to 'police' their contractors pretty well, the parts are much superior to the run of the mill Chinese parts

I think dynacorn has had some problems with front fenders according to the outfit I get parts at. Plus I don't like their front fenders for 58 59, they don't have the emblem holes. Counterpart does. I have seen dumb things done by counterpart and now from dyna corn. For the price they ask I just wish they all would get their act together. I think most of the parts are from Taiwan not china. I know the dynacorn cab step is way better than counterpart, the counterpart looks nothing like its suppost to look.
Lets all keep hoping some US outfit will start making these parts here.
