I'm pretty sure these were not put on the new trucks in 1949. Am I wrong? None of the usual vendors sell anything BUT chrome ones. Tell me if I'm wrong and where can I find one? Try placing an add in Trucks Parts Wanted Forum and looking in Trucks Parts For Sale Forum for a used one. There should be auto demolition yards around Carson City & the Reno area. Might even try calling Golden State Parts in Carson City to see if they have any or know of where to find one. I think they are closed on Saturdays. Nice looking 49 Truck you have there ... Michael

Best advice I could give, shop the classifieds here, and other chevy sites...offer to trade your chrome one for a stock one...cruise the scrap yards...and/or keep track at who is modifying their classic truck, and see what parts you can snag before they dump the old six in place of a crate engine  Question...how often to you have three in the cab...and does the middle passenger really interfere with the floor shifter?? That is a very nice '49 you have there!!! There are several non-chromed 216 valve covers (and side covers) on eBay.

I gave it a light sandblasting (aluminum oxide, I think 80 grit) to provide key for adhesion and then painted.
