Hi all,
I'm just installing a new harness in my truck. The previous one was jimmied beyond recognition.
My question is the light switch. It has a clip spot for a fuse on the back but the harness map and maintenance book have a field resistor marked there.
Does. Anybody have experience/diagrams/pictures with this?
Admittedly I'm not great at the electrical bit and don't fully understand it.

Matt,
Both my 36 and 37 GMC manuals show a fuse on the light switch. What manual do you have?

put a fuse in it and go - the truck, and the harness you got may have been updated, and the diagram was aimed at folks dealing with the times .... the 37 diagram is marked "field resistance", which seems related to the generator field circuit, maybe see the 39 diagram, similar but more understandable, split the difference wink the fuse appears to be for the stop lights and interior light, so may be shown in the 37 diagram by the 'bar' across the middle

Thanks Bill and Dunfire. I'll try it with the fuse! I was confused by the wording on the instructions that came with the harness - like Bill said it has field resistance listed while my copy of the maintenance manual for the 37 t14 has fuse listed. The 39 map is very helpful!
Dunfire - does your coil have a resistor on it? The coil on mine is 6v but not original as it doesn't have delco written on it, but had a resistor hooked up prior to rewiring. The wiring went to the resistor and then to the distributor but I'm thinking in a 6v system it might drop the juice too low.

No resistor on mine. My coil is a NAPA, part number IC8
