Well it came down to choosing one or the other this weekend. A local bolter building a panel with IFS ended up with a surplus factory swaybar he gave me a while back and I finally got the bushing kit and went at it. Now I know mounting a spin on filter behind and below the generator can/will result in an interference problem. Haven't tried high speed turns yet but pretending there's cones in the street to weave around is telling me I picked the better of the upgrades by plugging off the filter. The unit sure makes my chassis look complete underneath now as all the holes were there. Thought I'd throw this out there for those still in the planning stages of a filter setup. Looks like I'll have to do something near the bellhousing if at all.

My 1953 panel has the correct factory swaybar as well as the correct filter. My filter is way up high, mounted to the manifold. Maybe you need to put it up there.

Where do you guys ger the sway bar bushings from? I have a 57 Panel with the factory sway bar and all the rubber stuff is worn out and have not been able to find anything.

Thanks

Guess I should have mentioned I'm running dual carbs/exhaust which usually means the end of a manifold mounted filter.

The bushing kit came from Jim Carter but is for 51-55 models. A later kit should be available there or somewhere.

Happy Canada day everyone!

I talked to a reputable old timer who has been servicing vehicles since the early fifties, and he said that the first thing he did to a Chevrolet with the bypass filter was remove it and plug the holes in the block. His explanation was that he never dropped an oil pan that wasn't full of sludge in spite of frequent oil and filter changes. Also, when the filter hose fails, you lose all your oil and may not know until its too late. I run one on my 50 because I had one and it looks cool all painted and stickered up. Whether you have a bypass filter or not, religiously frequent oil changes are in order.
