Need some help in Chattanooga

I’m not sure if this belongs here or in the Engine section, so feel free to move it if necessary.

I am still getting to know my “new” 1954 3100. So I was delighted to find a metal tag riveted to the oil pan flange. The tag was from Douglass Engine Shop in Chattanooga, and info about bore, rod, and main bearings had been stamped into the plate. Appoarently they rebuilt the engine. The PO did not ever mention that, and maybe did not even know because it was done before his ownership.

I tried to contact the company, only to find that they were no longer in business. Naturally, I would love to track down some info – maybe someone has records of work they did, etc. My guess is that they ran a fairly substantial business, enough to have attractive tags created, with their logo.

Can anyone help with info? The shop was located at 4317 N Creek Rd. in Chattanooga, and the building with the sign is still there. Thanks for your help!

Maybe someone at Coker Tire company might be able to help you out. They are right there in Chattanooga.

Surely you took real good pictures with your car in front of the sign/store for the future. Very important if you ever sell. You never know when a building or it's sign will be gone.

Can't help you any more info on the shop but there still is a machine shop down in Chatt that can work on these old Stovebolts. I'm just outside Knoxville and took the head off of my 49 216 to a local machine shop and he sent it down to a shop in Chatt to refurbish it and they did an very good job. He didn't tell me the name but apparantly they do alot of auto machine work. Based on me getting the engine fired up for the 1st time in 44 yrs the other day, they do good work. It's possible they've merged.
