I am planning to wire turn signals into my 52 using dual filament sockets and am curious about how to go about this. The tech article is for single filament lights. How do I go about wiring a dual filament? I may answer my own question here but can you splice the original brake/parking wires into one wire on the dual filament socket and then run new wires (identical to the tech article for a signal-stat 900) for the turn signals and splice them into the second wire on the socket? The bright filament of the bulb should be the flasher. Want to know what I am getting into before I start.

Hello,You can purchase dual filament contacts and springs that will fit into your sockets at any auto parts store.You might have to modify the insulated washer by grinding it down a bit to fit your socket. You can then wire the turn signals and running lights separately.

The rear are already dual contacts. You will need to run another wire back & put one wire to each brake light. It,s a good idea to get some 3 or 4 strand trailer wire & replace all the wires going back. The front you can do like GTO posts get universal sockets & put them in your presant lights. Follow the diagram with the 900. It is a very good unit.

Replacing the single contact base in the existing socket is cheap using the napa dual contact bases, i think I paid $1.50 each. After that its just wiring.

Take the old round single contact disc with you to napa, tell them you need one of the same size with two contacts and yer done. Then get a set of dual contact bulbs.

see::

this little wire kit allows you to run a single filament bulb working as two bulbs.
SO
you can have a turn signal and brake light and they are the SAME BULB

Make #JE-SFL work like a double filament light with our wiring conversion!
One per light needed.
#L-JE01 Conversion for JE-SFL (each) $5.00

Thanks! I appreciate all the replys. Kinda figured this was a change the filament and do some additional wiring type of job. Hopefully I can get this done over the weekend. Question though... when I wire the turning signals to the rear they can be totally independent of the brakes right? In other words I do not need to wire through the brake switch like what is shown in the tech tips.

Answered my own question by the amazing power of not being an idiot! Forgot that the tail light is already dual filament with tail light and brake light functions... This needs to be wired just like the tech article. Wow! Hope I redeemed myself on that one by catching it before anyone else read it!

ok. the turn signal switch flashes the brake light filiment in the rear. that is the heavyer looking one. the switch disconects the brake switch from the side it is flashing, you need one wire from the brake switch to the turn signal switch and two wires to the rear brake light eliment. an other wire feeds the tail lights, the smaller filiment. another two wires from the turn switch go to the front lights. add a power wire to and frome the "flasher" it is a hand full of wires for so simple a job.
