i picked up a tach with two terminals.How are these wired?

Well it depends on the type of ignition you are useing.One side of the tach gets ignition power(with key on)and the other side goes to the "tach" terminal(at the dist cap)on an HEI type distributor or the (-) side of the coil on a point set up.

Im hopeing to put it in my 66.Its a 327 that has been converted to electronic ignition.Thanks.ron.

The brand of tach involved has a significant influence on the wiring problem.

Slow..Rider,You shouldn't have any trouble with wireing it up especially if you have GM HEI ignition.Look on the dist cap for the words "tach" and put a female spade conector on it to your "s" terminal on your tach.Then look for smoke! lol

The brand is Faria made bt the thomas g faria co. new london conn.If your looking at the face the way it should sit theres one terminal on the top and one on the bottom.Any educated geusses which is which? There are no markings s or other wise.

Hey S...R..,Never heard of Faria, but New London is 14 miles from me via the Cross Sound Ferry.Do they have a tec line?(A toll free information number for wireing info as in tec for tach)
If you have a test light,check for power to each wire with the key on.Let us know what you find.

I did the obvious..a goggle search for "Faria Tachometer"..got a bazillion hits. This company makes gauges for mostly marine applications.

Do a search, as gtow69 noted, they very well could have a tech-line. If nothing else, call one of the marine distributors for this item and ask how to hook it up!

I agree with atomarc. Click on the "Downloads" button using the link atomarc gave you and scroll through the list below to see if you can find what you are looking for.

If not, you can try typing in the Model number for your Tach at the "top" of the Downloads page and see if that works.

Thanks guys.I couldnt find any thing in there downloads so i sent off an e-mail.I will be surprised if i get a responce but will let ya know what happens. Ron.

Is the tach for a 6 volt or 12,,,I would assume it is a 12 being you are installing it on a v-8..

I could see some numbers that i thought might help id the tach but couldnt make them out.De sided to try and take the face off.When i took the chrome cover off it i found 8CYL stamped on the back and batt distributor with an arrow pointing to one of the terminals.I asume that that goes to the distributor cap only?Why is it marked dizzy and batt? Also whats the other termanal for,ground? I asume that its 12 volt joker but i dont know.Im geusing its mid 60s to early 70s.

make sure the tach is set for 6 or 8 cylinders.
look inside the tack for a switch (if it has one).
also if the tack has a bulb you can check w/ a VOM to see which wire is ground. go to bulb jacket ground and touck each wire to see continuity. that's your gnd wire.
