can some one tell me how set the choke on my new carb ,, i first got it it was way too high on cold start so i tried to back it off and it came out of the housing,,, so i am trying to get it back in, does the spring piece go in front or behind of piece on the butter fly ???

I just rebuilt one and the only way I can explain the thermostat spring is that it closes the choke as you turn the adjustment clock wise.

ok i understand so cold it would close the butter fly ,,, so what would open the butter fly ?? there is only 1 edge it goes against ??
so in this weather would it close all the way

As it warms up the spring unwinds and gravity takes over, see your idle speed screw/linkage rod to choke.

ok i see the vacuume will pull the flap open , as it heats up ,, i understand now ,i will read and see how far it needs to close when cold ,, i am guessing that cold is cold no matter what temp ,,even after being not running for a day is cold ??

The coil winds up as the warm air goes over it, unless you have an electric choke coil, then the electricity heats the coil and slowly opens it.

right now the car has been off for a day or so ,, when i put the spring [censored], in there i need to turn it slowly causing the butter fly flap to close, i would say there is a measurement there that needs to be between the flap and housing ??? i didnt see that in shop manual

turn it enough so it has a little bit of tension to hold the choke closed
