For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 182 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 182 | Can this be caused by overfilling the coolant, or do I have a blown head gasket or cracked block? The radiator was nowhere full when it started coming out - I was filling it up. When I started up the engine it started pouring out of the valve cover.
How much coolant does the whole system (with heater) use on a 235? | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | The coolant capacity is different for different years and sizes of trucks/radiators.

Take off the valve cover to see where the leak is.

The engine is a 1956 235 from what I can see. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Feb 2002 Posts: 12,029 | sounds like a cracked head to me Bill | | | | | Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 1,847 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2006 Posts: 1,847 | that head is a flower pot

If not, then the others are likely right. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 182 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 182 | Having trouble getting the head off. I've been working my way around the perimeter with a putty knife then small screwdriver to break the seal. Then I tried putting a crowbar in several of the ports and prying but no luck. Any ideas? | | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 182 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 182 | Do any or the rocker shaft bolts hold the head on? I didn't think they did so I left them alone. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | Make sure you have all 18 head bolts out. Rocker bolts do not need to come out, it just makes assembly easier, and easier to get the three center head bolts.

Kicking self for selling off my Taskforce trucks. Still looking for an LCF or conventional big bolt in decent shape.

I even looked under the side cover and took off the rocker arm shaft. | | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 182 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 182 | I found the 2 bolts I missed | | | | | Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 182 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Aug 2010 Posts: 182 | Got the head off. Looks like it's cracked around two of the valve seats that I can see so far. | | |
