I install the new driver's side wiper in the down position and turn on the motor and the blade tries to move further down. I reinstall the blade in the fully up position and turn on the motor and the wiper sweeps correctly. The passenger side is just the opposite, the blade parks in the down position. Under the dash, the driver's arm attaches to the top of the motor and the passenger side arm attaches to the bottom of the motor. Any guesses why the driver's side wants to park in the up position?

Make sure the drivers and passenger sides are going both ways correctly. Then turn it off. Put the splined wiper blades on in the park position, and it should work.
If they are not moving right, perhaps you have the wiper arms reversed on the motor. I.E. they are moving the wrong direction.
When you start the wiper from park, the spindles should turn towards the outside of the vehicle. Otherwise, the arms are reversed. | | |

The passenger side turns toward the outside of the vehicle but the driver's side also turns the same direction i.e. the center of the vehicle. I didn't connect the driver's side transmission arm to the motor, all I can see is that it is connected to the top of the wiper transmission. Hey red58, I didn't know the retainers were available. The passenger side link was disconnected and missing the bushing. I made a bushing out of steel rod and used a fender washer (3/16" id) and a c-clip to hold it all together. Who sells the retainers? Thanks for your replies guys.

You are sure of the arm placement on the motor. The driver's side was already attached to the top of the motor. By process of elimination I attached the passenger link to the bottom of the motor. When I wrote they turn in the same direction, I mean they both start out sweeping to the passenger side. This means the drivers wiper must park in the up position so it can sweep to the right and the passenger side wiper parks in the down position so can also sweep to the right. Clear as mud right? I will try to look at other trucks to determine if the driver's link was attached incorrectly by someone else.

the shape of the 2 links is definitely different as they sit under there, tho I can't see well enough to tell what the entire difference is - also there is supposed to be some difference between 5-7 and the 8/9 because they list different motors, but I have never figured out what that is
with both arms being pulled inward at the same time I really don't understand how your shafts could be turning the same direction unless maybe the links are both 'rights' or 'lefts'??
