I'm using a '00 GMC/Chevy steering column in my '56 Burb and want to connect the steering column wires to the brake/turn signals lights and Hazard flashers. The OE wiring schematics routes the wires thru a Body Control Module (BCM) which I will NOT be using.

I'm not certain where to connect three of the eight wires so if someone can help me out :confused: .

The steering column has the following wire colors, pin number, and function:

-White A1 Stoplight switch
-Gry A3 ?
-Ppl A5 ?
-Dk Blu A6 Front right turn
-Lt Blu A7 Front left turn

-Lt Blu E1 ?
-Dk Grn E6 Rear right stop/turn
-Yel E7 Rear left stop/turn

My approach to this question would be a little different. You don't have the BCM, so some of the wires might not be relevant without it. I would make a list of what you need...left turn, right turn, brake, ignition, horn etc. Then figure out what functions the new column will provide.

Use a VOM and find the function of each wire coming out of the column. Match those with the functions you require and you're home free.

I'm assuming you are going to use the column ignition switch and not the stock dash unit. This will require some invention, not hooking this color to that color. The new column has a flasher position on it...the old rig had no flashers (?)..more creativity.

I guess what I am saying is you won't find a wiring diagram that will mate the two systems.

You probably will find a diagram that identifies the wires by color that exit the column, but without the BCM they might not perform the function you want. This might not be the answer you wanted, and it might not be THE answer, but it's the best I can do on short notice. Good luck.

I'm not familiar with the wiring of vehicles as new as your column. The piece that is missing from your description is the flasher unit.

Is there a flasher mounted on the column? My bet is no. I suspect something in that BCM box provided the 'flash' and you may need to figure out how to add that with those additional wires.

I sit at a computer all day to make a living, but I've mostly refused to work on computer controlled cars!

Actually according the repair manual the A3 Gry wire is the Turn Module 2 supply. The A5 Ppl wire is the Turn/Haz Module signal and the E1 LtBlu wire is the Turn/Haz Module. I'm thinking two of three wires go to each of the two flashers. The third may not be needed?

I'll start wiring the Burb next week so it'll be trail and error. Hopefully the errors won't result in shorting out any of the switches in the steering column :o .

WOW, that was easy! I was loaded up on Egg Nog and forgot about those pesky "Modules". Actually, I have no clue what they are.
