might matter what year 'betsy' is .... look here, the L shaped piece, which attaches to the throw out with the adjustment bolts, does have factory notches to keep it in the eye

What is "NO8"? I don't think the rod should have any notches. The rods have tabs or "ears" to keep the rod in place, but not notches to best of my memory. Mine is restored, wrapped, and in storage right now, so I can't look.

I believe what you are seeing is wear from the link movement on it.
I always weld up that recess.

Yeah that is what I figured it was too, just wear. originally I filled it in with JB Weld, but now that I have a mig, I figured on going back and welding up the notch.....

IMHO, a small "notch" from wear wont hurt anything. Just grease it up and keep an eye on it. Certainly filling the notch by welding is a good approach to fixing a deeply worn rod.

Since there is about a one in a million chance of finding a
original factory new clutch release rod gp 0.787 pn 3676398
to tell if they did have notch in them or not and I can’t
document it I’ll withdraw my comments and yeld the floor to
PreDave.

Contrary to Denny I believe it is wear, unless we are talking about two different things.
If you study the movement of the adjuster in relation to the link when the clutch is disengaged you will see that the link stays in a straight line and the adjuster and fork that it is attached to are pivoting off the pivot ball and swinging in an arc. This creates movement at this connection.
I have 5 loose adjusters and all show different amounts of wear. Here is a link to pictures of the best and worst worn adjusters I have. LINK TO PICTURES
