Am I right to assume the sending unit on a Panel is the same as a truck? I am guessing the gas tank is mounted in the same direction just in a different place?

Nope, totally different. I understand that the J. Carter one is wrong ohmage and that he did not know it until advised, may have fixed that by now. Double check that it is 30 Ohm before you buy. (Carter PN: MEG 133) If not, not available.

Ted, the tanks are very different shapes - the pickup tank is in the cab behind the bench seat, the original panel tank is against the frame rail below the passenger

I purchased a sending unit from Carter recently for my panel. It was 30 ohms and works well.

Leo, the 55-59 sender is a different item than the AD one

Bill,

Does that mean I will not be able to find one new? I haven't investigated fully yet, but there appears to be no wire coming out of the tank - I need a mirror to take a better look. The way things are going I am sure this will fight me every step of the way too.

in order to replace the sender or even reconnect the wire to it, you'll have to drop the tank or cut an access hole in the floor - you can rebuild yours using parts from a repro pickup sender, or PM bartamos, who I think has some rebuilt

Ted;

Bartamos has been helping me work through this exact issue. I'm the one that bought the new sender form Jim Carter only to realize it was a 90 ohm unit. The TF trucks require a 30 ohm unit. He agreed that it should have been 30 ohms and didn't realize they were incorrect. He was very suppotive and agreed to provide a replacement sender when he got the correct ones in. I haven't followed up yet to see if he has any.

Go to the website and click on the link to ask a questoin/contact the seller. Jim answers the mail and provides a quick reply. If he has the new ones in stock, post a note here to let us know. Other than JC I haven't been able to find anyone that sells the senders specifically for TF burbs/panels. Several companies sell universal models that are 30 ohms, but not a direct recplacement.

Bartamos will rebuild your stock unit if you send it to him. Send him a PM if you're interested to get a price and turnaround time.

I'm going to wait a little longer to see if JC gets the right parts. If not I'll either buy a universal and make it fit or have Bartamos build me one.

Thanks

Larry - the universals can work, but a rebuilt original will be a better quality for the long term wink

The answer from JC is "they are not back in stock yet".

Thanks to all, this will certainly prevent more grief. Seems like every small job turns out to be a major one. I tried to adjust my driver's door and I found two bolts broken inside. So drill out the spot welds, remove the mounting, fix and weld back in. I thought I would be doing fun stuff!
