Is the bolt pattern where the carb bolts to the intake the same? Typically, the GMC carburetor would have been a Zenith (and, maybe a Holley)?
The bolt patterns might match.
What year 235 manifold?

I thought maybe the carb on the 228 might work on the 235. Thanks for the shout-back. Dave | | | | | Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 206 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Oct 2011 Posts: 206 | i belive the gmcs share carbs with 216s and early 235s. if you have a full pressure 235 ( with four bolts around the valve cover). then the bols will be spaced out wider then your 228 zenith. so.. you can 1. get a carb for a 235, 2. ive heard of ppl fileing out the holes on the throttle body base, but i would want to ruin A good zenith. 3. swap manifolds. you need to get the stepped alignment rings. im assuming the 228 manifold fit fit you might want to investigate your self before going that route.
If i had the 228, id keep the carb to go with it, then find a 235 carb used for 60-80 bucks.
you'll need to fab a front mounting plate as well cause the 235 will be shorter.

I want to use the carb thats on the 228 (GMC) and put it on the 235 intake. Bolt pattern is 2 15/16" bet the bolts that fasten carb to intake. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 2,763 Carburetion specialist | | Carburetion specialist Joined: Nov 2002 Posts: 2,763 | The flange size for a 1950 Chevrolet 235 should be S.A.E. size 3, that is center to center bolt spacing of 2 15/16 inches.
G.M.C. used dozens of different carburetors on different year and application 228 engines. ALL that I have information on are ZENITH size 10 and 11.
Zenith had intermediate sizes; but both the Zenith size 10 and size 11 correspond to an S.A.E. size 2 flange which is 2 11/16 center to center.
The throttle bore on the Zenith size 11 is slightly larger than the Zenith size 10; again BOTH are 2 11/16 center to center.
The Zenith corresponding to S.A.E. size 3 would be Zenith size 12.
If you have a good G.M.C. 228 Zenith carb, perhaps you could find a Chevrolet 216 intake and use the Zenith carb.
Jon. Good carburetion is fuelish hot airThe most expensive carburetor is the wrong one you attempt to modify. So does the 216 manifold bolt up to a 235 without any alterations? Can I use just the intake? Also, could I use the zenith size 10,11 with the 216 manifold? How do you tell the different sizes of the Zenith carbs? Appreciate the help. DAve

I had a 216 manifold attached to my 235 when I got it and they did not use the correct stepped rings they just had the 216 rings. That must have been a pain to put on | | |
