I have a head unit in the glovebox but would love to have something easier in the place where it was meant to be. I'm sure you are aware of the expensive options. I would be hesitant to cut a hole for the antenna, I have heard that you can mount an antenna horizontally under the frame with good reception results.

I assume that you have seen the newer radios that fit but don't look original? But if we can find one that fits and can be found in the local bone yard then thats just a bonus. AM/FM would be fine for me 'cause I'd use my satellite receiver (and no need to cut a hole for an antenna) The info about the twin antennas under the running boards was pretty cool.

They mount under the dash, behind the seat, under the seat etc. Tune Trapper claims they work GREAT!! i going to try this antenna. I to am hesitant about drilling a hole in my truck for the antenna.

I think some have had success on FM with the hidden antennas but I don't think they worked too well for AM. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 1,747 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2012 Posts: 1,747 | No help on the radio that fits in the dash. But I have seen and mounted antenna under the hood with some success. Used an existing bolt from the hinge to mount and a zip tie to Stabilize the tip at the center seam. Push the wire through an existing hole in the fire wall and done. Works in town and where reception is good. No one can see it and no holes in the truck. Under the running boards is a new idea to me but might work just fine.

isn't a good location as Fred eluded to because the metal
around or in close proximity to it, acts as shielding and
shorts out most if not all of the signal. Especially the AM, again as Fred mentioned.
